Hit a weight loss plateau? How medically supervised semaglutide may help

You cut calories, you moved more, the scale went down, and then it stopped. Plateaus are one of the most discouraging parts of losing weight, and they are also one of the most normal. Understanding why they happen makes it easier to decide what to do next.

Why plateaus happen

As you lose weight, your body adapts. Your resting energy needs drop, hunger hormones rise, and fullness signals get quieter. None of that is a failure of willpower. It is biology protecting a weight it has gotten used to.

Where semaglutide fits

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist. It works with the same hormone pathway your body uses to signal fullness. In practice it can help reduce appetite, slow how quickly your stomach empties, and quiet the constant food thoughts many patients describe. It is a prescription medication and it works best alongside nutrition, movement, and regular monitoring.

Who may be a candidate

You may be a candidate for medical weight loss if you have:

  • A BMI over 30, or

  • A BMI over 27 with a related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes

This type of medication may not be appropriate if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer, MEN2, pancreatitis, or gallbladder disease. A full health history review comes first.

What supervision actually means

At The Aesthetics Place MedSpa, your program is designed and monitored by Tanja Pittman, DNP, APRN, CNP. That includes a one-hour consultation, a dosing plan that is adjusted to how you respond, and someone who watches for side effects such as nausea or constipation and helps you manage them. In-office and telehealth visits are both available, and prescribed medication can be shipped to your home.

What it costs

Programs start as low as $200 per month. Your plan and pricing are reviewed with you before you begin.

The honest part

Medication is a tool, not a shortcut. Results vary from person to person, and the habits you build while on it are what help you keep your progress. If you have been stuck for months, a conversation is a reasonable next step.
